Wedding catering – 5 top tips from wedding platters
What’s is the one of the wedding things everyone remembers most about the wedding? That’s right, the food!
1. ASK your caterer for recommendations
Seasonal and local ingredients tend to be fresher and less expensive for your caterer and they know it. Try to listen to what your caterer recommends and don’t get stuck in an idea of having for example strawberries in the menu for winter wedding. They won’t taste as nice and you will spend fortune. Use in season ingredients, possibly locally sourced to save pennies during the process.
2. Have set budget and STICK TO IT
Oh Boy, this is something we see on the daily basis. Setting a budget and then adding to it. Many couples are looking for ways to save money on wedding catering simply because it’s the biggest expense in their wedding budget. We get you. We all have been there but instead of looking for cheap (often inexperienced) caterer we strongly advise choosing fewer courses or serving more vegetarian options (much cheaper). Be realistic so you won’t have to add to your budget. We know it’s your wedding day and you want it to be perfect so maybe instead of plated meal you could go with family service style or grazing table options. It’s much more cost efficient and it adds perfect centerpiece at the venue.
3. Don’t follow ALL of wedding catering trends
It’s a little bit like with fashion. Trending clothes are more expressive. Same with wedding catering trends. Make the wedding your own and choose style of food that suit you as a couple. Do you really wanted to serve food that has French names you cannot pronounce properly? We are absolutely not telling you to avoid all of the trends but simply choose one or two
4. Don’t be afraid to SHOP AROUND for perfect caterer match
Wedding food is a little bit like a wedding dress. Everyone will be talking about those two after the party is over so choose your caterer wisely. As we mentioned before wedding food is the biggest expense of your wedding and you want to make sure you are getting what you are paying for. Don’t forget to ask questions after question when choosing your wedding caterer. They need to have answers for you and be happy to accommodate your requests.
5. Think OUTSIDE of the box
Fun starts when you are start choosing your wedding food. You can choose the menu that matches the theme, create you signature cocktails, choose a dessert station … food that describes you. Sky is a limit here. There are many of wedding food ideas to choose from and your imagination and good caterer will make your wedding dreams come true. Enjoy the process rather than stress about it. It’s so much fun when you open your head and heart to new visions.
